Baroque Reimagined: Old Masters, New Voices
Cello soloist Peter Eom brings electrifying virtuosity to L.B. Files, a bold reimagining of Luigi Boccherini’s music by contemporary composer Giovanni Solima. One of four striking works on this genre-blurring program, L.B. Files pushes the boundaries of Baroque tradition using modern cello techniques to launch 18th-century sounds into new sonic territory.
The concert continues with a powerful reinterpretation of Pergolesi’s sacred themes by Soviet defector Lera Auerbach, who casts a 21st-century lens on timeless spiritual questions. In Perkison’s Sinfonietta—a hidden gem of the string orchestra repertoire—the iconic B-A-C-H motif intertwines with the American folk tune Mockingbird in a work of astonishing depth and beauty.
Rounding out the program is Grieg’s Holberg Suite, a luminous tribute to a 17th-century Norwegian poet that seamlessly blends Baroque structure with Romantic flair.
